Everyday, every hour, every minute we say Artificial Intelligence (AI), but what is it? Do we really need to know about AI? So, in this post, we are going to discuss AI.
Our planet Earth has one satellite. We call it as Moon. So, Moon is a natural satellite. Then with the idea of Moon, many scientists built and are building satellites. And we call this as Artificial Satellite. The meaning of Artificial can be easily told as man-made, or we can say, the thing that does not a naturally existed.
Among us, when we talk about something, we automatically know what to talk (generally). But how can we talk about a topic? Human beings learn from experience. So, with the help of data, we have something that we call Artificial Intelligence that is to imitate the human brain.
For example, when we see someone, we know he/she is named as June or Jack. Our brains have neurons, neurons can activate and instruct other brain’s nerves to see the someone as June or Jack. Just like this, in AI, we try to imitate human intelligence. In above, we say, human beings learn from experience but AI learns from data. Using Neural Networks, a network of man-made neurons (for sake of common people), one can build an AI system that can do some tasks that almost same as that of human beings.
So, What is AI?
AI is nothing, it is exactly same as mentioned or talked in above. Let me give or write the definition of AI however, the definition may or may not resemblance with any books or websites.
AI is a field of a combination of Mathematics, Statistics, Probability and Computer Science. It imitates human beings but not exactly like human beings (for now). It involves the machines or computers that can perform specific tasks explicitly with human helps.
(Don’t worry when people talk about AI. It is man-made and try to think like a brain but for specific tasks).
Artificial Intelligence is not Human Intelligence
In above section, I said, AI is about imitating human intelligence. So, AI is not exactly human intelligence. It just tries to copy what human beings do, think, act, feel, etc. For example, every WhatsApp users find something called Meta AI. Meta AI can create videos, images and also reply or chat like human beings. But they are not human intelligence.
AI doesn’t think like human beings, it doesn’t feel like human beings, it doesn’t see like human beings, that means AI doesn’t have consiuosness. Human beings can feel, can see, can think to perform tasks. But AI doesn’t think. It just performs the tasks that are already trained to do.
AI works through algorithm and data. Without algorithm and data, AI doesn’t work. In AI, algorithm is set of steps of how AI can know or understand a task and data is the experience. Similar to human beings, AI can learn from data.
Why AI was created?
Back in the time. People did every task manually, even organizing files. So, this means, there was no way to accomplish a task very quickly. And, say, when someone sent an email to me or you, Google identifies the email as spam or not spam. However, if we do this manually, it will take time and manpower.
So, AI is all about automation. Human beings can get tired easily if we do a task again and again. Even if we eat a dish again and again, we get tired of that dish easily. But if it comes to AI, whether it doesn’t like the dish or not, it will eat the dish again and again, meaning the repetitive task can be done or handled by AI easily. And, AI can assist human beings in any way it can. And, most of the time, we will struggle to read or process a huge amount of information. However, if AI is trained to perform this task, AI will do this without getting tired.
AI types
There are mainly three types of AI. Here in this section, I will briefly explain them.
Narrow AI: As the name suggest, narrow AI is for specific tasks. Right now we are in Narrow AI era. For example, say ChatGPT, it can chat with people because the creator trained it to do like that.
General AI: This type, we also call this as Artificial General Intelligence. Current AI systems can perform amazing tasks but they cannot do or think or have conciousness like us, human beings. But General AI is next level AI that can perform exactly like human beings do.
Super AI: This type, we also call this as Super Intelligence. This is hypothetical future concept. In this, AI systems should perform tasks more intelligent than human beings.
So, final thought?
AI is not simply a technology trend, it is way for us to interact with information and solving problems easily. So, we need to learn about AI. May be not the whole AI topics or upto higher level, but to learn even the basics. Almost every software we are using right now has AI. We need to learn AI because AI will shape the future further and further.
